Addiction treatment in Salem, NH

Outpatient rehab a short I-93 drive from Salem

Clear Steps Recovery does not run a clinic inside Salem. Our New Hampshire program is at 1 Commons Drive, Units 21 and 22, in Londonderry, off I-93 Exit 4 at the Crossroads. From most of Salem it is a straight run up I-93: roughly 13 miles and about 20 minutes from the Exit 1-2 area near Tuscan Village and the Mall at Rockingham Park, through Windham, to our exit. Many Salem residents tell us that small distance is the point. Care just over the town line means showing up for partial hospitalization (PHP) or intensive outpatient (IOP) without parking near the Route 28 corridor where a neighbor, coworker, or someone from church might recognize the car. Salem already has a respected local provider in town, so we do not pretend to be the hometown option. We are the choice for people who want a little more privacy and a clean separation between treatment and daily life.

How outpatient care and detox coordination work

Everything we offer is outpatient. That covers intensive outpatient (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), standard outpatient, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and a dedicated mental-health track, but it does not include a medical detox or residential beds, because we do not run either. If withdrawal needs to come first, we line up a bed at a trusted partner detox and then move you straight into our program the moment you are medically stable. Dr. Richard Marasa, our medical director, reviews this clinical content; he is board-certified in Addiction, Emergency, and Internal Medicine and has 46 years of clinical experience.

What the overdose numbers say about Rockingham County

Rockingham County, which includes Salem, has had among the lowest overdose death rates of New Hampshire's counties in recent years, even as substance use remains a real burden across the southern tier of the state. That is one more reason accessible, lower-pressure outpatient care can do a lot of good here. (Source: NH DHHS Drug Monitoring Initiative.)

Local access

Getting here from Salem without a car

Salem has more transit than most NH towns its size, which matters for a PHP or IOP schedule you have to keep several days a week. The Salem Transportation Center at 10 Raymond Avenue, just east of I-93 Exit 2, has 476 free park-and-ride spaces and Boston Express service, so a commuter who drives up from the Massachusetts line can leave the car there. As of April 2026, MeVa (Merrimack Valley Transit) runs a fare-free Route 28 bus from the Lawrence MBTA station up through Methuen and Salem, stopping at Target, Tuscan Village, and the Mass General Brigham center. None of these drop you at our Londonderry door, so if a ride is the obstacle, tell us when you call; we will help you map a realistic plan to and from Londonderry, including coordinating support for any transportation barrier.

FAQ

FAQ About Our Addiction Treatment Serving Salem, NH

How far is Clear Steps Recovery from Salem, NH?
About 13 miles, or roughly a 20-minute drive. From the Exit 1-2 area near Tuscan Village and Rockingham Park, you take I-93 north through Windham to Exit 4 in Londonderry, then a short hop to 1 Commons Drive at the Crossroads. We are outpatient only, so you drive in for your IOP or PHP sessions and head home afterward.
There is already a rehab in Salem. Why drive to Londonderry?
Salem does have a strong local provider, and for some people staying in town is the right call. We hear from Salem-area residents who specifically want care a little farther from home: not parking on the Route 28 corridor or running into someone they know in the waiting room. Londonderry is close enough for a daily program and far enough for real privacy. We would rather be honest about that trade-off than oversell.
Do you offer detox for someone in Salem who needs it first?
We do not run a medical detox or residential beds; Clear Steps is outpatient only. When someone needs to detox before outpatient care, we coordinate that with trusted partner detox facilities and then bring them straight into our PHP or IOP once they are medically stable. You make one call to us and we help arrange the whole path.
Can I get to treatment from Salem without a car?
It is workable. The Salem Transportation Center off I-93 Exit 2 has free park-and-ride and Boston Express buses, and the new fare-free MeVa Route 28 bus runs up Route 28 through Salem. None of these drop you at our Londonderry door, so when you call we will help build a realistic transportation plan, including coordinating support for getting to and from sessions.
