What Anthem typically covers
Anthem plans and outpatient addiction treatment in New Hampshire
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is the Blue Cross licensee for New Hampshire. People carry it through employers, buy it directly, and buy it on HealthCare.gov, where the on-exchange plan is sold under the Matthew Thornton Health Plan name, an Anthem company. Federal parity law requires most of these plans to cover substance use treatment on the same terms as medical care, so the question is rarely whether treatment is covered. It is which level of care your plan approves, what you pay, and for how long.
At our Londonderry center, Anthem members typically use these levels of care:
- Partial Hospitalization (PHP). Many Anthem plans cover PHP when a clinical assessment supports it, with authorization approved before the first day.
- Intensive Outpatient (IOP), day or evening. Many plans cover IOP. Whether the plan wants authorization first, or only notification, depends on the plan.
- Outpatient (OP). Weekly therapy is usually billed like other specialist visits, with a copay or coinsurance and no approval step.
- Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). The visits are covered like other outpatient care on most plans. The medication itself runs through your pharmacy benefit and its formulary.
Coverage depends on your plan. An HMO through a New Hampshire employer, a bronze marketplace plan and a PPO from an out-of-state employer can all say Anthem on the card and pay differently. We verify your benefits in one call and tell you what applies to you before you decide anything.
Levels of care

Every level is outpatient. You sleep at home and keep your life around treatment. Detox, when it is needed first, is arranged by referral to a partner facility.

Our most structured day program, several hours a day on weekdays.
-

Three-hour sessions several days a week. Evening IOP runs Monday to Thursday, 6 to 9 pm.
-
Outpatient (OP)
Weekly individual and group sessions, as a starting point or a step down.
-
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Suboxone, Vivitrol and related medication visits, overseen by our medical director.
Blue Cross Blue Shield is listed among the plans accepted at our New Hampshire program, at 1D Commons Dr, Units 21 & 22, Londonderry, NH 03053, off Route 102 at I-93 Exit 4, about 15 minutes from Manchester and 20 from Nashua, Salem and Hudson. Clear Steps Recovery is listed in the plan's published New Hampshire marketplace provider network file for 2026 and 2027, the file CMS requires each marketplace insurer to publish. Employer plans and other Anthem products run their own networks, so during the benefits check we confirm your exact plan against our contract rather than assuming.
If you carry a Blue plan from another state and live closer to our Needham, MA center, call first and admissions will confirm which office your plan pays for.
One thing we say plainly: we are not in network with Medicare at this time. If Medicare is your primary coverage, call anyway. Admissions can point you to options, and FindTreatment.gov, the federal treatment locator, lists programs that accept it.
