New Hampshire Medicaid Coverage for Addiction Treatment: WellSense, NH Healthy Families and AmeriHealth Caritas
New Hampshire Medicaid delivers its benefits through three health plans, WellSense Health Plan, NH Healthy Families and AmeriHealth Caritas New Hampshire, and all three are on the list of plans accepted at our Londonderry program. Here is what the Medicaid substance use benefit typically covers, what it costs you, and how to get an answer about your own plan in one call.

What NH Medicaid typically covers
The Medicaid substance use benefit at our Londonderry center
Substance use disorder treatment is a covered New Hampshire Medicaid benefit, and that includes the Granite Advantage Health Care Program, the state's expansion coverage for adults. Whichever way you qualified, your care is managed by one of three plans: WellSense Health Plan, NH Healthy Families or AmeriHealth Caritas New Hampshire.
At our Londonderry center, Medicaid members typically use these levels of care:
- Partial Hospitalization (PHP). Covered when a clinical assessment supports it, usually with authorization from your plan before the first day.
- Intensive Outpatient (IOP), day or evening. Covered on all three plans in general terms. Whether authorization is needed first depends on the plan.
- Outpatient (OP). Weekly individual and group therapy, a covered benefit with no approval step in most cases.
- Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). Suboxone, Vivitrol and the visits that go with them are covered benefits, with the medication subject to your plan's preferred drug list.
The part people are most relieved to hear: New Hampshire Medicaid keeps cost sharing to prescriptions only. There are no copays for office visits or treatment sessions, and for Granite Advantage adults, substance use treatment is free of copays altogether. Coverage still depends on your plan and the level of care it approves, so we verify your benefits in one call before anything is scheduled.
Levels of care

Every level is outpatient. You sleep at home and keep your life around treatment. Detox, when it is needed first, is arranged by referral to a partner facility.

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)
Our most structured day program, several hours a day on weekdays.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP), day or evening
Three-hour sessions several days a week. Evening IOP runs Monday to Thursday, 6 to 9 pm.

Outpatient (OP)
Weekly individual and group sessions, as a starting point or a step down.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Suboxone, Vivitrol and related medication visits, overseen by our medical director.
WellSense Health Plan, NH Healthy Families and AmeriHealth Caritas are all listed among the plans accepted at our New Hampshire program, at 1D Commons Dr, Units 21 & 22, Londonderry, NH 03053, off Route 102 at I-93 Exit 4, about 15 minutes from Manchester and 20 from Nashua and Salem. Because Medicaid is a state program, New Hampshire Medicaid pays for care at our New Hampshire office. Clear Steps Recovery is also listed in WellSense's published New Hampshire marketplace provider network file for 2026 and 2027. That file covers WellSense's marketplace plans, not its Medicaid plan, so for Medicaid members we confirm the plan on your card during the benefits check. If you do not have Medicaid yet but think you qualify, you can apply through NH EASY, and The Doorway, the state's substance use help line at 211, can connect you to care while the application is in progress. Call us either way.
One thing we say plainly: we are not in network with Medicare at this time. If Medicare is your primary coverage, call anyway. Admissions can point you to options, and FindTreatment.gov, the federal treatment locator, lists programs that accept it.
