Same-Day Admissions: What Happens When You Call

  • Answered 24/7
  • Same-day assessment in many cases
  • Insurance verified in minutes
  • No pressure, no obligation

You do not need to have anything figured out before you call. A real person answers, asks a few plain questions, checks your insurance while you are on the line, and in many cases books a confidential assessment with a licensed clinician for the same day. Here is the whole sequence, who answers, and what to bring.

24 hours a day, no menu

What happens when you call

One call starts everything. Here is what to expect.

  1. You call, we answer

The admissions line is answered 24/7. A real person picks up, no menu and no callback queue.

  2. Benefits check within minutes

We check your insurance with the carrier at no cost and tell you what your plan covers.

  3. A short clinical assessment

A clinician talks through what is going on and matches you to the right level of care.

  4. You start

We schedule your first day, same day in many cases, at the office closer to you.

What we will ask: your name, a callback number, which state, and only if you have it, your insurance card.

The first call

What happens on the first call, minute by minute

Most first calls take about ten minutes. Nobody is asked to commit to anything on the phone, and you can hang up at any point and call back when you are ready.

  1. 01

A person answers: Not a menu and not a call center script. An admissions coordinator at Clear Steps Recovery picks up, day or night. If you are calling for someone else, say so. A parent, partner, sibling or friend can make the first call and we will explain what involvement looks like.

  2. 02

A few plain questions: Your first name, a number we can call you back on, which state you are in, and in broad strokes what is going on: what you have been using, for how long, and whether you have been in treatment before. If you have your insurance card, we take the details. If you do not, we keep going.

  3. 03

Insurance checked while you wait: During the day, admissions verifies your benefits with the carrier in minutes and tells you what your plan covers and what your share would be. Overnight and on weekends, the check happens first thing the next morning and you get a call back.

  4. 04

An assessment is booked: A confidential clinical assessment with a licensed clinician, at the office closer to you. In many cases, if you call during office hours, it happens the same day. The assessment decides your level of care: Day Treatment, an intensive outpatient schedule by day or in the evening, or weekly outpatient care, and whether medication-assisted treatment fits.

  5. 05

Your first day is scheduled: Usually within days of the assessment. Evening groups meet Monday through Thursday from 6 to 9 pm at both centers, so a person who calls early in the week is often in group by the end of it. If medical detox is needed first, we arrange it with a partner facility and hold your place for when it is complete.

What to bring

What to bring to your assessment

If you do not have all of it, come anyway. Admissions will sort out the rest. Wear whatever is comfortable.

  • Photo ID

A driver's license, state ID or passport.

  • Insurance card

Front and back, if you have one. MassHealth and NH Medicaid cards count. If you have no insurance, say so and we talk through the options.

  • A list of your medications

Everything you take, including anything prescribed for anxiety, sleep, pain or ADHD, and any medication-assisted treatment you are already on. A photo of the bottles works.

  • The name of any recent provider or program

A detox, a hospital, a residential program, a therapist or a prescriber you have seen recently, so the clinical team can coordinate with your consent.

  • Your questions

Anything you want to know about the schedule, the program or how it fits your job. Write them down. The first day is a lot to take in.

  • A little time

The assessment is a conversation, not a form. Give it an hour so nobody has to rush.

Who answers

Who you will talk to, and what stays private

The admissions line is staffed by our admissions coordinators, people whose whole job is the first call and the first day. They are not clinicians, so they will not diagnose you or push a program at you. They will listen, verify your insurance, answer what they can, and get you to a licensed clinician for the assessment. The clinician is the one who recommends a level of care, and our Medical Director, Dr. Richard Marasa, MD, provides clinical oversight for every program at both centers.

Everything you say is confidential. Nothing about your call or your treatment is shared with an employer, a family member or anyone else without your written consent. If you would rather not use the web form, that is fine. We ask that you never put diagnosis details, medication lists or records into a web form. Share those by phone, where the conversation is private.

Same-day assessment depends on two things: calling during office hours, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and a clinician being available at the office closer to you. Call before lunch and the odds are good. Call at night and the line is still answered by a person, your insurance is checked first thing in the morning, and the assessment is usually the next business day.

A few situations mean the first day comes after a first step somewhere else. Heavy daily drinking, benzodiazepine dependence or a history of withdrawal seizures means medical detox comes first, and we do not run detox on site. We arrange it with a partner facility and plan your start with us for when it is complete. If you need a residential program, we help you find one and plan the step into our care afterward. Either way, the call is still the right first move, because admissions handles the arranging.

Same day, where available

When same-day works, and when the first day comes a little later

Prefer to text?

Text the same number and a coordinator writes back.

Some people would rather not talk on the first try. Text (603) 769-8981 with your first name and which state you are in, and admissions replies during the day. When you are ready to talk, the call takes about ten minutes.

Frequently asked

Questions people ask before the first call

Can I really start the same day?
Often, yes. Call during office hours, we verify your insurance in minutes, and a confidential assessment with a licensed clinician is available the same day in many cases. When your program starts depends on the assessment and the level of care recommended, but it is usually within days.
What if I call at night or on a weekend?
A real person still answers. Your insurance is checked first thing the next morning and admissions calls you back, and the assessment is usually the next business day. Offices are open Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
Do I need insurance to call?
No. Call either way. If you have insurance, we verify it at no cost. If you do not, admissions talks through self-pay and what MassHealth, the Health Connector or New Hampshire Medicaid might offer. Nobody is asked to commit before they know what treatment will cost.
Can a family member call for me?
Yes. A parent, partner, sibling or friend can make the first call, ask questions and learn what involvement looks like. The assessment itself is with the person entering treatment, and nothing about their care is shared afterward without their written consent.
What should I bring to the assessment?
A photo ID, your insurance card, a list of any medications you take, and the name of any doctor or program you have seen recently. If you do not have all of it, come anyway and we will sort out the rest. Wear whatever is comfortable.
Can I just walk in?
Please call first, even from the parking lot. That way admissions has your insurance checked and a clinician ready, instead of you waiting. The line is answered 24 hours a day.
What if I need detox first?
Medical detox is not provided on site at either of our centers. If you need it first, we arrange it with a partner facility and plan your first day with us for when it is complete. Call and admissions coordinates both.
Which office do I go to?
The one closer to you. Londonderry, NH at 1D Commons Dr, Units 21 & 22, off Route 102 at I-93 Exit 4, serves southern New Hampshire. Needham, MA at 392 Chestnut Street, Suite 200, off Route 128/I-95 near the Needham Heights commuter rail stop, serves Greater Boston and MetroWest. One number, (603) 769-8981, reaches both.
